Hi Varshini,

Great work here!

Several years ago I had the Sunrise Florida Team in my house for a few weeks as they were coming through Tampa Bay. At the time I was teaching at the Patel College of Global Sustainability, so I gave them bunches of contacts and opportunities to learn, teach, and present your Movement.

I've recently have been engaged with more learning with a few others who are recognizing the CHANGE we are approaching and how much it is IMPORTANT that we collaborate and connect together as much as possible. . . Fritjof Carpa, Otto Scharmer, Thomas Hubl, Jeffrey Allen, and Vishen Lakhiani will love to engage your Movement as well . . . yes some serious players, so I assembled what I witnessed together onto this Google Drive if you want a sampling of their works: https://go.shr.lc/2KXwsRD

Obviously, I have a LOT to do, and still am challenged rebuilding where I started www.starsusa.org . . . but as you can see here, I have my hands full.

Please reach out to Mira, copied above and linked below. . .

And don't hesitate to call me if I can help more!
Keep up the Great Works, as we all need it!
God Bless,
Eric

Hi Mira,
I shared things before with the Florida 40 group about engaging sunrise. The night that Fritjof mentioned them we had a leadership zoom that I recorded and posted for him.

Here again is something he can easily participate in.  It's one thing to talk about these things, but quite another to really do something.
God Bless
Eric

Mass training on how the climate movement can show up for Black Lives.

Dear Eric Rafael,
All across America, people are rising up to fight for a country that works for all of us, one where Black Lives Matter, where we finally get our priorities on track and stop pouring billions into a militarized police while people are going without so many basic human dignities: without food, without housing, without healthcare, without counseling, without decent jobs, and so much more.
This is a historic moment and we all have a responsibility to show up for Black lives right now.

We're hosting a mass training tomorrow night at 8pm ET on how the climate movement can show up for Black Lives. We'll cover:
  • Why it's essential that the climate movement show up in this moment
  • Where you can find out what's happening near you
  • How to show up in a way that is strategic, safe, and respectful, with insights from experienced direct action trainers

I want to be very clear -- this isn't a secondary priority for our movement, it's core to the work we need to do.

As a Minneapolis police officer was choking George Floyd to death, George Floyd cried out "I can't breathe." That's the same cry thousands of kids -- mostly black and brown -- yell out every day because they've developed asthma from breathing polluted air from coal plants and refineries. It's the same cry that hundreds of thousands of people infected with COVID have gasped out as they are trying to fight for their lives when they don't have access to the healthcare they need.

We're not a movement that only cares when someone says "I can't breathe" thanks to climate change and fossil fuels. We are fighting for a society where everyone, no matter the color of their skin or how much money they have or where they are from has basic rights to clean air and water, good jobs, a safe home and neighborhood, and the healthcare they need.

Our 10th principle says: "We stand with other movements for change," not just because it's the right thing to do but it's the only way we're going to win the Green New Deal and win that kind of change.

That couldn't be more true than right now. We are a nation at a crossroads. Down one path lies a world remade in the pursuit of justice, racial justice, economic justice, and climate justice. In the other direction, Trump, white nationalists, and complicit police departments are inciting violence against peaceful protesters, and Trump is flirting with martial law.

We have always known that it's a choice between climate justice and ecofascism, and that choice is looming closer every day. Everything is up for grabs.

Join us tomorrow. RSVP here and share with your friends and family, whether they're in Sunrise or not, all are welcome.
See you there,
Varshini Prakash, Sunrise Executive Director
